A career goal of mine is to work in the automotive industry designing engines to operate at higher fuel efficiencies, outputting more power, and finding different materials better suited to the application. I have grown up around cars, fixing them when they break down and figuring out how they operate and how to improve their performance. I have continued to deepen my knowledge of how they work as a student in mechanical engineering. As technology has progressively become more sophisticated, so too have cars. A big part of that is their electronic control units (ECU), and as such it has become imperative that automotive manufacturers employ engineers capable in computer programming and possess an ability to solve problems that arise in computational logic. While pursuing my Associate’s of Science. I took many courses focused on computer science where I became adept with the process of trouble shooting and problem-solving using computer programming. The tools engineers use has progressed as well. Now an intimate understanding of 3D modelling tools is necessary for any engineer. I have taken courses using both Fusion 360 and Solidworks and have displayed proficiency using both. The software also utilizes stress analysis to predict possible flaws in the products. An effective way to parse and display the data provided is with computer programming, namely MATLAB, which I am very proficient with.
