UCHealth operates as the largest healthcare provider in Colorado. With four main hospitals along the front range, they focus on attaining community health and improving lives. My duties at this facility have included a successful financial evaluation and implementation of the Watchman and TAVR procedures. Because this is an Academic Medical Center, we always looked to improve lives through innovative, less invasive procedures for quicker recovery times and less time in the OR. I was expected to create financial analyses for all newly requested products and recommend if they should be approved in collaboration with Value Analysis Managers. I have been able to work with vendor agreements and study new medical devices/procedures.

Physicians' Ally is a firm that provides assistance to dozens of physician groups by assisting with billing, compliance, contracting, credentialing, and revenue cycle audits. As an intern I was assigned to assist in creating a plan for a neurosurgeon group to become compliant with the new Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act laws. The plan and implementation was successful with total savings over $30,000 annually.

During my time here I gained valuable understanding of the patient experience and abilities of a high performing team. Closely interacting with patients and people every day and understanding how difficult the road to recovery can be, it is important that as health care providers we see patients as people who have lives to live. If we can assist in improving their lives, our lives are better for it. I learned also about insurance, electronic health records, and importance of tracking patient's information.
