About Tantra Grillo
Radio personality, rapper, and emcee ‘Tantra' is originally from Tustin, California. She decided to jump to Hilo for adventure and the stars. Intending to become an astronomer she ended up with her BA in Communications from UH Hilo in 06’. She entered the radio business in 2003 with KWXX in Hilo after program director G Cuz heard her voice. She went on to become DaBeat and Native FM’s afternoon voice and jumped to Maui to host the afternoon drive on roots reggae station Q103 where she earned the #1 spot in ratings for her afternoon drive show in 2012. She became Honolulu’s female voice for Hip Hop in 2015 as the powerfully outspoken half of 'The Power Morning Show' on Power 104.3 taking their dipped ratings from #6 to #2 in 2 years. As a rapper she released her freshman hip hop album ‘Love’s Heretic’ which won her a Na Hoku Hanohano Award in May of 2017 for Hip Hop Album of the Year. She became the first woman to take home this award in the category. She is now taking a break from the airwaves and focusing on music, her Podcast, spending time traveling and performing all over the planet. Her 2017 Na Hoku Hanohano Award winning album, Loves Heretic & 2023 Key West Award winning follow up album, "On The Brink" are available on Youtube, iTunes, CD Baby and all other streaming a music purchasing platforms.

Her sound is heart opening and experimentally expressive, emoting a 'Spiritual Gangster' nature with a humbling dose of reality. Her first album ‘Love’s Heretic’, released in 2016, won her a Na Hoku Hanohano Award (Hawaiian Grammy) in May of 2017 for Hip Hop Album of the Year. She became the first woman to take home this award in the category and still holds this title. An audience engaging performer, Tantra has rocked crowds from 15 to 20,000. Fueled by loss and a ghosting divorce, “On The Brink” is her latest testimonial. This newest album tells a story of crippling transformation, self-reflection and forgiveness. Partly recorded in Nassau, Bahamas & one of Mac Miller’s favorite studio’s in Dallas, Texas, the album took 3 years to complete and will be released on 11/11/23. Tantra also produces her own Underground Hip-Hop events in order to give the communities she’s lived in a place for poetry and created "The Key Rhyme Collective” in 2021. Her singles, artist collaborations and 2017 Na Hoku Hanohano Award winning album, "Love's Heretic", are available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Youtube and all streaming platforms.
