My research based art/ design practice focusses on inspiration from ancestral Mātauranga Māori concepts. The designs are community based - transitional, regenerative and net positive projects.Working in the digital realm creating stories that firmly place indigenous concepts, knowledge, perspectives and ways of being in the landless territories of new imagined futures. The possibilities within the digital realm, and how do we design them to work for us. Interested in concept development of game environments VR/AR AI teaching practical ancestral knowledge and envisioning new inclusive futures. Integrating this into on the whenua projects with dedicated indigenous and non-indigenous textile researchers, academics, scientists, engineers, growers and local Iwi (tribes). I have been documenting the journey towards circular designed, native plant fibre materials and textiles that will help to connect people back to the land through indigenous ways of knowing - language and knowledge recovery. Drawing from indigenous perspectives and ways of being, the focus is on Papatuanuku Mother Earth and nature as a partner. Honouring ancient knowledge and a deep inherent connection to it throughout multimedia documentation process and kaupapa or methodology of research. Inspiration for the journey is continually drawn from navigational, cosmology, and creation stories, our matauranga Māori knowledge & oral traditions.
