I'm a psychotherapeutic counsellor with a background in education, having worked as a primary school teacher before retraining. The bulk of my work has been with children & young people aged 4 - 25 years & parents in need of therapeutic support. I very much enjoy counselling and coaching adults too. My private counselling practice runs alongside contracts to provide one to one coaching & counselling services in schools. I have a dedicated counselling room. Although not wheelchair accessible, I would hire an appropriate & accessible room for potential clients needing that. I use creative and expressive arts in my work with clients when appropriate.I am a registered member of the BACP, have an Enhanced DBS certificate and am fully insured with Public Liability and Public Indemnity Insurance. Prospective clients can check my DBS status upon request for the information that allows them to do so.I am a mum of three children aged 12, 17 and 19. I love to read and I am very partial to the Netflix equivalent of a good box-set. I'm approachable, friendly, experienced, flexible and I love my work and care about my clients very much. There have been occasions where I have run groups, based on a shared need, such as confidence, self-esteem and friendship issues. I am lucky to be included in the staff warmly and fully and as such have also led assemblies and staff training sessions. I have also been involved in high school transition, SEND assessments and meetings with outside agencies and professionals. My experience of being a teacher feeds into my work at the school as I understand the flexibility that my service needs to have in order to blend with the needs of the school. The one to one sessions with the children are based in the theory and skills of my humanistic training, and include talk, expressive arts, story, play, use of the school's sensory and outdoor spaces, elements of NLP, coaching, visualisation and mindfulness and psychoeducation on emotional regulation, thought patterns and understanding others.

There was an element of parental support in the role, met by face to meeting or phone calls with parents to talk about family issues or wellbeing issues for their child. I worked in close partnership with the management and safeguarding team at the school as well as the teachers. The counselling sessions included talk, play, drama, music, stories, expressive arts, psychoeducation, emotion-regulation coaching, mindfulness and visualisation, and incorporated individual elements according to the interests, needs and personality of each child.

Children'S Area OrganiserPurley Festival 2012 - 2017The Purley Festival was an annual event run for the community and by the community in Purley. It created a series of great events for local people to enjoy and for local businesses to support with sponsorship, skill-sharing and as a showcase for their products and services. I booked the businesses that showcased their children's activities in the Enchanted Wood Children's Area of the festival, set the area up and managed the organisation and running of the children's area over the finale weekend event.

I worked with children aged 4-19 years in one-to-one sessions. It wasn't all talk. Each session was designed and planned specifically for the needs, strengths and interests of the child. We talked; created; used art and craft activities; played and went through coaching exercises from the worlds of NLP, CBT, play therapy, counselling, mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence work. If it suited the young person, we utilised poetry, drama, visualisation and relaxation work. The majority of the work has been with 4-12-year-olds but included several older teens who were stuck, depressed and despondent about the way the social and economic landscape had left them feeling about their life and their opportunities. Most of my work with parents was in workshops and via my writing, but I loved doing coaching sessions with parents too. Parents have little time and space in their lives to think of themselves, and it was very special work to be able to create individualised sessions to create a time and space for them to concentrate on their own lives, minds and needs. I did a lot of writing for parents via my blog, articles, guest posts and social media. -
