In 2016, Sierah Joughin was a lively and ambitious college student, enjoying life as an Alpha Kappa Psi and studying business at the University of Toledo, planning to pursue her M.B.A. However, on July 22nd, her dreams were cut short when she was killed by a repeat violent offender who lived nearby that she had never met before.In the aftermath, the Justice for Sierah nonprofit was founded to ensure that the spirit and determination of Sierah would continue to live on in this world and to ensure no more young people would meet her same fate. Justice for Sierah empowers young people to protect themselves through self-defense and awareness training. It also educates adults on best practices for creating safe communities and the importance of violent offender databases.Justice for Sierah’s vision is for young people to grow, learn, and thrive in safe and supportive communities. Its mission is to protect communities by implementing the Ohio violent offender database, known as Sierah’s Law, in all 50 states. Justice for Sierah’s work also includes empowering our youth by establishing self-awareness and self-defense in school curricula and communities through the Sierah Strong Program.
