Tara K Howe Email and Phone Number
Tara K Howe is a Senior Director Central Scholarships and Gift Use Agreements at Washington State University Foundation. Colleagues describe her as "Tara has been a fantastic colleague and a pleasure to work with over the last five years. Where there is a need in the organization, Tara is there to jump in, understand the need, coordinate the effort, and as a collegial team leader offer a recommendation. She's a great listener, quick to respond, transparent in her efforts, and has a way to bring a group together to produce a result for the greater good. She has earned the respect of her colleagues at all levels of the organization. Tara embodies what it means to be a Coug!!" and "I had the great pleasure of working alongside Tara for more than three years at WSU. Initially, Tara and I reported to the same member of the Advancement Leadership team. Over time, the Foundation's org changed, but our close working relationship remained. Tara was always the smartest person in the room. She is thoughtful, works hard, and, as long as she has been with WSU, has continually looked for ways to improve what is in place and come up with new strategies to improve processes and the way in which WSUF supports the University's Advancement staff. She is a superb writer, listens well, is a fantastic presenter and facilitator, and is funny as h**l. If I ever had a job on my team I thought she would consider, I'd hire her in a heartbeat. She is one of the people I most miss from WSU and she will enrich any team or organization lucky enough to bring her on board. She makes everything better."

Director Of Advancement OperationsWashington State University Foundation Oct 2023 - PresentAs Director of Advancement Operations at Washington State University Foundation, my leadership has been pivotal in the execution of cross-functional projects. With a background rich in human and business development, my expertise lies in seeing the connections others often miss, fostering dynamic teams, and crafting impactful communications strategies. I am proud of the work we are currently doing to revamp our gift administration process; a testament to our commitment to efficiency and strategic growth. We strive to increase the intuitiveness and ease of the human-tech interface, which can only come from a deep understanding of the labyrinthian interconnections of the systems at play. We are currently working to outline the entire process, identifying gaps and new areas of synthesis, to create an elegant flow that allows our fundraisers to focus on their donors, and allows our donors to focus on the transformative nature of their philanthropy. I am thrilled to work with amazing colleagues across the system to that effect. -
Interim Director Talent ManagementWashington State University Foundation May 2023 - Oct 2023I was appointed Interim Director of Talent Management for six months in 2023, to facilitate leadership transition, managing our 170+ Advancement staff needs across the talent spectrum and in collaboration with our wonderful WSU HR partners. This was an incredibly fulfilling role and put my 20+ years of human and business development skills, alongside the four years I spent working intimately in collaboration with Talent Management and HR at WSU, into a meaningful container for effecting change. -
Director Of Constituent Development Units And Campaign AdministrationWashington State University Foundation May 2019 - Oct 2023In my role as Director of Constituent Development Units and Campaign Administration at Washington State University Foundation, I partnered with senior leadership to drive organizational strategy and business operations. I managed a significant budget, developed internal and campaign-specific strategic communications, and developed in-person and digital training programs and paradigms, and was a key collaborator and leader in the development of our organizational intranet platform. Additionally, I oversaw personnel training and management for a large staff across multiple campuses and colleges, serving as a key liaison for constituent unit and central staff and working closely with Talent Management and HR. I served a central role in developing an innovative tiering structure for our frontline fundraising staff and I was appointed as a COVID-19 project specialist for 6 months with the WSU President's Office during the peak COVID-need of 2021. I also served terms as the Volunteer Coordinator for the DEIAB Leadership Committee and the Marketing and Communications Lead for the Administrative Professional Advisory Council. This role afforded me tremendous insight into the near entirety of our operations. It allowed me to find the interconnections from the integrative health, nonprofit, and business development positions I had held and relate those to the world of academic philanthropy. As a gestalt thinker with a proficiency in breaking things down to their necessary components to effect strategy, it was an incredible way to learn the inner workings first hand, while developing solutions for improvement and growth.Though I am a WSU alum, it has been in working with the WSU Foundation, via my incredible colleagues, that I have truly learned what it means to be a Coug. -
Transformational Coach & Business OwnerTara K Howe Jan 2002 - Oct 2019In addition to providing top tier coaching and holistic health services, I successfully managed facilities, finances, client retention, and business partnerships. I provided integrative health services both in-office and online, developing educational content and platforms to enhance client experience. I created and maintained the company brand, websites, newsletters, marketing campaigns, and social media presence, in addition to event management, product sales and management, and generating new client leads. Included additional work with:Illumina Healing Sanctuary - Scottsdale, AZHealing the Eye and Wellness Center - Phoenix, AZWomen's Wellcare Foundation - Phoenix, AZGritman Medical Center - Moscow, IDGood Samaritan Village - Moscow, IDParks and Recreation Department - Glendale, AZPalouse Doula Association - Moscow, IDDaily Om - Online InstructionPalouse Clearwater Environmental Institute - App development and onsite training paradigmsUI & WSU Women's Leadership Forum - Workshops and PresentationsA large part of my practice involved working with clients coming from significant trauma who had found brilliant survival strategies and showed me a level of resilience that is forever humbling. I had the great opportunity to also work with death (via hospice) and birth (as a doula and provider of integrative health services during pregnancy and in the labor and delivery department). It is a gift to be asked into the lives of others in these ways. Being witness and holding space are incredible honors. At the end of the day, I know I am the one most impacted from what I learned from my clients, and I am profoundly grateful for this work.

Executive DirectorThe Uma Center Jan 2010 - Dec 2013In my role as Executive Director, I was the key advocate and speaker for the organization's mission. I oversaw all aspects of facility operations, strategic planning, grant writing, finances, community outreach, event coordination, and relationships with board and health providers. I also led the creation and maintenance of the brand, website, newsletter, marketing campaigns, and social media platforms. Additionally, I coordinated volunteers, engagement, communications, and successfully solicited funding and memberships. This organization arose from the need women in our community were expressing for a place to gather, find education and resources, and receive support during the childbearing and childrearing years. Though I was the founder and director of this nonprofit, the UMA Center would not have been possible without our incredible board and the willingness of practitioners ready to engage in this space. It is no small thing to blend the holistic and western medicine communities, and though we have further still to go, this endeavor taught me so much about bridging those worlds and uniting under the common goal of caring for women and families in all their forms and in all their decisions.

Integrative Health CoordinatorGritman Medical Center Aug 2003 - Jun 2005As the Integrative Health Coordinator at Gritman Medical Center, I led the Integrative Health department and staff to provide exceptional care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I managed licensing compliance and insurance billing and compliance, staff and community events, outreach, and training; this included spearheading an integrative health internship program for students in collaboration with a local professional school and nursing home. I also served as the department's representative internally and externally, fostering relationships with key stakeholders and community partners, and I managed a grant with the American Cancer Society that allowed us provide no-cost integrative care to those receiving cancer treatment. I then had the honor of being appointed to the Women and Children’s WellCare focus team to evaluate the needs of our community.Though I left this role to pursue other family needs, I felt truly at home here, working alongside healthcare practitioners from various modalities, being a part of the hospice care team, managing a staff of incredible practitioners, and working for a nonprofit hospital (under the leadership of Jeff Martin, CEO) that truly valued its patients and community. This role allowed for innovation and exceptional delivery of care. I am most proud of the way in which we were able to bring the concepts of holistic health to our patients throughout the hospital, including the ICU, and the ways in which we were able to extend that care to our hospital staff, including our RNs.
