From my studies in Psychology to my professional growth in Social Work, I have found myself in the workforce. I have learned to marry the two fields of my passion and interest to work with the Special Needs population. I have a core belief that everyone has not met their full potential and I thrive on working with the population in achieving strides forward.My first job taught me that to truly provide the best service to the individuals, you have to honestly respect them for who they are and where they are. I had the pleasure in helping a women who lived with Prader-Willie Syndrome to blossom. After assessing where she was in categories such as emotional intelligence, social skills, reading comprehension, and more we started to work from those levels. Working hard together, with evaluations during the process, she was able to obtain a dream volunteer position and has held it for four years to present. Another goal we worked on was her physical health. She only made it about a half a mile when I started with her. Right after we terminated our work together she walked a 5k race with friends and family. Working with this population is a delicate balance of what I bring to the table, my trust in what they bring to the table along with their friends and family.
