The Amey, Lagan and Ferrovial Agroman (ALF) consortium achieved Financial Close for the Department for Regional Development Roads Service's DBFO (Design Build Finance Operate) Package 2 contract in December 2007. Amey and Lagan have created a special purpose project company Amey Lagan Roads Limited to deliver the overall DBFO Contract.The 30-year £250 million project has commenced construction. Within the consortium, the construction work is being undertaken by a Joint Venture between Ferrovial Agroman Ireland and Lagan Construction. Amey are the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contractors for the scheme.The project forms part of Northern Ireland's £18 billion investment strategy, ‘ Building a Better Future '. The aim of this strategy is to make Northern Ireland a better place to ‘live, work, learn and grow'. Under the scheme, the region's schools, roads, water, waste, health and office infrastructure will all be improved over the next decade.

A1/N1 Motorway Newry to Dundalk Client Name and Address: NorthRoute JV Project Value: €20,000,000 Start Date: Feb 2005 Project Duration: 18 Months The project comprised the bulk excavation, pre-earthworks drainage, installation of culverts and network drainage for the construction of 14.5km of two-lane motorway with 14km of associated side-roads, to create a link road between the M1 at Dundalk and the Forkhill roundabout at Newry.

N1/M1 Dundalk Western By-Pass

Construction completed five months ahead of schedule and the First road to be completed under Government’s NDP PPP Scheme Mr Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Transport opened the new 11km length Dundalk Western By-pass on Monday 26th September 2005, five months ahead of schedule. Originally due to be opened in February 2006, the By-pass formed part of ‘Euroroute EO1’, the north-south road corridor linking Dublin and Belfast. Celtic Roads Group (CRG), a consortium comprising Ascon Contractors, NTR plc, and ACS/Dragados of Spain, was awarded the road contract by the NRA in 2004. Fully funded through collection of tolls on existing toll plazas, the new road section was constructed under the Government’s National Development Plan PPP (“Public Private Partnership”) scheme. It is the first road to be completed under the scheme. As part of the concession, CRG will operate and maintain the By-pass as well as an already constructed 43 km of the M1 motorway at the southern end of the scheme over the next 30 years. The new road stretch will allow motorists to bypass Dundalk, reducing traffic congestion within these towns radically and making delays a thing of the past. It will also cut peak journey times between Northern Ireland, Dundalk, Drogheda and Dublin.
