Led training for new staff to prepare them to lead rock climbing courses for students in Smith Rock State Park.Led several trips a year for military veterans and piloted Outward Bound California’s first veterans courses for women in the High Sierra.Focused instruction and mentorship on personal growth and group development using the wilderness as a backdrop.Led wilderness trips for groups of 8-10 college students and adults from 5-30 days in length in the High Sierra and Joshua Tree National Park.Created content and met with donors to acquire funding for veterans’ specific wilderness programming.Led trips with several elements including backpacking, mountaineering, rock climbing and community service.Facilitated learning expeditions for other staff to train them in COVID procedures and mentored new staff in the field.Managed logistics for trips between 7 and 30 days in length with 10 students, including food, gear and itinerary planning.

Directed the outdoor program for grades 7-12 at an independent school, serving 400 students annually on 6 different courses from 5-20 days in length.Managed relationships and permitting with federal and state land managers to ensure the program was meeting all requirements for operating on public land.Managed the climbing program including the supervision and training of staff, the creation of policies and procedures and the purchase and maintenance of gear.Created policies and procedures that support the physical and emotional well-being of all staff and students participating in each course.Managed a program budget of over $600,000 annually.Hired, trained and supervised 20 staff on 6 different wilderness courses a year focusing on personal and professional growth and development.

Led wilderness and frontcountry trips for elementary, middle and high school students with anywhere from 10 to 40 participants.Received funding from the school to attend trauma informed care training for outdoor educators focused on providing the highest quality of care to students struggling with mental and emotional health in the wilderness.Led trips focused on creating opportunities for the students to build new connections with one another and to learn about themselves.Created curricula that aligned with the students’ classroom learning.Collaborated with school faculty to begin indigenous land acknowledgement practices that incorporated the students.Facilitated online learning experiences through Zoom for students during COVID.
