I'm an Assistant Professor at UBC's School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) and an Associate Member of the Geography Department. I use ethnographic and quantitative methods to study how power operates in development policy, with a focus on gender data, social protection, and care work. My approach to public scholarship integrates academic research, practice-oriented publications, and direct engagement with international policy processes.

Ladysmith is a feminist venture for gender equality. We help international organizations collect, analyze and take action on gender data. Recognizing the importance of bridging research and action, I founded a learning program that offers innovative, best-in-class leadership and professional skills training to Gates Cambridge Scholars who aspire to make the world better. I manage a multi-disciplinary team that researches and liaises with leadership training providers, designs program content, and undertakes rigorous quality and impact evaluation. I report directly to the Provost and Gates Cambridge Trust. Following a highly successful pilot year and the presentation of our annual report to the Gates Cambridge Board of Trustees, a five-fold increase in our budget was approved.

I collaborated with the regional director and local community organizers to design community programs and awareness campaigns around access to housing, education, health and sanitation in low-income communities in Argentina, Peru, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. I wrote grant proposals and organized large-scale fundraisers, and reported directly to our principal funders.

I designed regional advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns around access to justice, housing, reproductive health services and other issues for low-income women, and partnered with academics at the University of British Columbia to develop a regional statistical portrait of women’s access to services that improve their wellbeing. I wrote grant applications, organized fundraisers, and developed a sustainable revenue project.

I worked with renowned human rights expert Professor Adam Jones on a research project investigating patterns of gendered labour migration in Kerala, India. I identified key regional stakeholders, compiled a database of relevant information resources, and conducted a robust literature review.
