The foundation was established on July 20, 2010 to remember the life and legacy of Dawne Ann Buttone Garner (February 24, 1942-July 20, 2000). Our mission is to help improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by or suffering from diabetes, renal failure, or stroke. My duties as an auditor in the Audit Division within the D.C. Office of the Inspector General include assisting the Assistant Inspector General for Audit when auditing the economy and efficiency of the District of Columbia government agencies’ programs and systems. As a member of the audit division, I determine whether D.C. government agencies acquires, protects, and utilizes its resources (such as personnel, property, and finances) adequately and to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. I apply audit-sampling techniques, analyze internal and administrative controls, examine records, and assess procedures. Additionally, I identify cost savings and strive to identify accurate vulnerabilities to provide timely and relevant audit recommendations that will assist government agencies to achieve measureable results. Further, I strive to promote and carry out the OIG’s mission to detect and deter fraud, waste, and mismanagement throughout the District of Columbia. I conduct audits in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. My other responsibilities include writing working papers and audit reports, as well as supervising junior auditors.

In the Finance & Administration Department of the Council, my overall responsibility included receiving all monies sent to the Council. I processed payments from architects and student interns to commence a Council Record. I also accepted payments to transmit their records to various jurisdictions, assisted them with updating or renewing their Council records, and allowed payments for monographs, outstanding balances, and express delivery fees. In addition to the above duties, I relieved the Controller by managing the accounting department’s customer service issues I created and implemented all forms for accounting procedures internally and externally.
