I am biracial member of the LGBTIQ+ community who grew up in Louisiana, went to graduate school in Tennessee, and now calls Seattle home. Because of my identities and contexts, I grew up without seeing myself reflected in the world around me. As a result, I have made it my mission to help increase diverse representation. Whether in the spheres of media, education, or business, I believe that the American workforce needs to look more like the people of our country and that the products and services we offer should be inclusive and affirming. As part of this mission, I work with Tessera Editorial, a consortium of BIPOC editors whose goals are to diversify the world of publishing and bolster inclusivity in the authors and books that get published. Through my own freelancing and through Tessera, I offer a wide array of services including manuscript evaluation, developmental editing, copyediting, authenticity/sensitivity reading, and writing coaching, all of which come with diversity, equity, and inclusion feedback. I work with Indie authors as well as publishing houses and reading organizations: We Need Diverse Books, Hello Sunshine, Macmillan, Sourcebooks, and APub. Before editing, I taught English at all levels, pre-K-adult, in primarily majority-minority schools and developed curriculum for 8th grade and college levels. I also worked at a high school cultural exchange center, running exchange programs and trainings. In each of these jobs, I have been dedicated to both helping my workplaces better serve underrepresented populations and giving the students and authors I work with get the tools they need to succeed.
