Manager Of Emergency Management

Current

Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada

I am responsible for the development of an emergency management program for unincorporated electoral areas that provides services to 12,000 citizens throughout 26 hamlet-like communities distributed across more than 12,000 sq. km. ensuring statutory compliance from a solid foundation. Successfully implemented EOC activations for multiple type 1 events (2021 atmospheric river, 2021 wildfires, 2020 atmospheric river). By assessing foundational business units and skill sets, re-envisioned the future of the emergency management program as a program aimed at disaster risk reduction and inspiring rural resiliency. Represented FVRD on the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Flood and Wildfire Advisory committee for 3.5 years among other local government actors advising the provincial legislative modernization of the BC Emergency Program Act and regulations. Through 2 years of advocacy, influenced the Province of BC to solidify a relationship with ICS Canada resulting in BC becoming an ICS Canada AHJ on December 1, 2021. I teach ICS with passion and an aim to increase understanding. I am proud of having administered a full program redevelopment (the first under the former legislation, then an update to meet the new legislation months later) in my 5 short years here. I am immensely grateful for a supportive Board and a senior leadership team that sees my vision and understands the inherent importance of EM as a shared responsibility and distributed function of an organization.
