About Tarin Puckering

Working with people has always interested me. People are amazing, complex, and ever evolving. That is why I have followed a person-focused, varied career. My passion for the arts and interest in people have converged, allowing me to concentrate on the advantages of the arts in a medical and holistic context. I have been fortunate to work in many environments where I can build on my applied arts skills such as care homes as an Activities Coordinator, in schools and museums enriching students' historical experiences and working with refugees to help build a sense of belonging within their communities. To now where I am able to support and guide people through the progression of Dementia as a Dementia Adviser. Because my jobs have always relied heavily on my social battery being high, I do enjoy the quietness of life. I love long outdoor walks, getting lost in a good book, crafting and I try and to get dog snuggles wherever possible. My other passions in life are seeing live music, theatre, spending time with those I love and Halloween!

Listed skills include Theatre, Drama, Video, Film, and 12 others.

Dementia Adviser

Current

York, England, United Kingdom

As a Dementia Adviser I am a support line for those affected by dementia. I do this through guidance and signposting and offering advice and support throughout the progression. Through a person-centered approach I can help those affected navigate the questions and worries that everyone has at such a time. Working with professionals and volunteers, together we are able to support people’s needs and values through assessing, referring and providing care plans. As well as support and guidance I am working with Age UK to create a new programme of groups that are located within the community in the York area. These groups include a Games Café's, a Chatty Bus, a Gardening Club, Dance Café, and more Singing for the Brain sessions. Through research we know that groups are a brilliant way for those affected by Dementia to live a richer life as they provide socializing, support, and promote well-being. The society provides support for those affected and their carers. You can follow the Alzheimer’s Society on social media and access free recourses and guides on our website, alternatively you can call out national helpline on 0333 150 3456.

Actress

The History Troupe offer a range of texts that are written by Rob bell that are historically and locally themed. These texts offered me a brilliant chance to develop my acting skills through various techniques including after show Q&A's. The audience Q&A's enabled me to work closely on my characters through real life stories and experiences expressed by audience members sharing their stories. The almost 'verbatim' style is a favourite of mine as it offers an actor the chance to really dig deep into a characters context and backstory which in turn helps to create not only a strong character but a relatable one.

Programme Coordinator

As programme coordinator my role was to coordinate all programmes within the educational sector and the community. By building strong relationships within the educational system we were able to create curriculum supported workshops that engaged and inspired students studying in selected schools, focusing on their aims and objectives to create immersive workshops that make learning fun and interactive. For this I liaised directly with the schools to organise logistics of set up and delivery. We worked closely with NCOP / HOP based at The University of Hull. Our main goal was to focus on widening participation and student support into HE. Throughout this I liaised with schools directly and The University of Hull within data collection and evaluation. For Community Engagement Performances I cast performers to be part of The History Troupe Players, organised rehearsals; sourced costume & materials; liaised on set design; helped with promotional marketing and liaised on stage management through booking venues.

Intern

Hull, United Kingdom

During the internship programme I assisted on the InPort Stories project located at the ABP (Associated British Ports) Pump House on Alexandra Dock in Hull (Originally a Pop-up project but it still remains today). This exciting project enabled me to gain skills in organisation; time management; critical thinking; problem solving and communication. The Pump House Gallery was a very challenging project and pushed me through my comfort zone as I had never done anything like it before. I learnt much to do with planning, logistics and design. The project was a fantastic introduction to my Widening Participation Programme and helped me understand how large projects are run on a wider scale.
