Instructor at The Johns Hopkins University in the Engineering Program for Professionals. I teach Management of Systems Projects, a required course for the M.S. in Systems Engineering program.

Ms. Holbrook is responsible for business operations and program management for the portfolio of high technology projects in the Emerging Technologies Business Program organization. Ms. Holbrook was the Deputy Program Manager for a 5-year, $100M multi-project BPA (106 projects over 4 years); and was responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the program. Ms. Holbrook is a Project Management Institute (PMI) certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Technical Director for Government Solutions group and Product Manager for the TRADOS MultiTerm application. TRADOS was a language technology company.

Software Development Manager -Ms. Holbrook was the Software Development Manager and team lead for a multilingual information retrieval and dictionary tool. She led an integrated team of 15 developers and support personnel, and assisted the government program manager with all aspects of the program management. In addition to these management tasks, Ms. Holbrook also designed and developed the core services that provide access to the data repository using Enterprise Java Beans. Ms. Holbrook coordinated and directed the efforts of the software development team, interfaced with the customer and support team (requirements manager, test manager), and maintained the project schedule. Ms. Holbrook mentored others in the areas of internationalization and multilingual processing. She worked closely with Oracle corporate developers, and helped to influence the direction of the Text product. Ms. Holbrook was the go-to person for Text and multilingual issues for her Practice.

Ms. Holbrook was the Lead Software Engineer, developing a three-tier Java application using JVM 1.1, Oracle 8.0.4, Oracle’s ConText cartridge, and RealNetworks video and audio server on NT workstations. She wrote the Software Requirements Specification and Software Standards and Practices Manual, designed and implemented the User Tools database, and served as the system architect.

Ms. Holbrook managed technical support for a startup software company; was the project manager for a problem tracking system; and assisted junior staff members in providing customer and pre-sales technical support. She coordinated all product releases, and was responsible for ensuring that the product was fully tested and quality was assured. In addition to these responsibilities, she also worked as a consultant to VPE, Inc.’s customers, assisting them in the design and implementation of their Internet applications - which included database design, HTML design, Perl scripting, Unix scripting and CGI programming. Ms. Holbrook also developed a 5-day training course to teach customers how to use the product, and taught multiple instances of the course at various customer locations.

Ms. Holbrook designed and developed a GUI for a large-scale client/server database system using Oracle 6, Oracle 7, Pro*C, Unix scripts, PL/SQL stored procedures and triggers, and the 4GL tools VPE and GainMomentum on Sun Unix workstations. She produced contract-required documentation and worked as part of a special team to develop GUI coding standards and practices.

While at HRB Systems, Ms. Holbrook developed GUI code using low-level Xlib, XIntrinsics, X/Motif and UIL code; unit tested Motif GUI using C language on a DEC VAX station; and integrated the GUI with other processes. She designed and developed X/Windows-based interfaces for an IR&D signal recognition and processing system using C, Motif, and Oracle on Sun SPARC workstations. Ms. Holbrook wrote a GUI Style Guide, and assisted subsystem developers in the design and development of subsystem GUI.
