Tarun Kumar is the CEO of Cancer Insights, an oncology evidence-based AI platform serving Providers and care teams. His 20+ years of experience has been at the intersection of analytics and industry insights. Prior to founding Cancer Insights, Tarun was the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Utopus Insights Inc. Tarun led an 8 year effort (2010 - 2018) to incubate and build deep analytics in the field of renewable energy, electric transmission and distribution and oil and gas. With the innovative software and accompanying IP created as a result of 5 years of work, in 2015 he co-led the effort to spin out the IBM Research Smarter Energy team into a new startup called Utopus Insights which was formed in March 2017. As CTO of Utopus Insights, he led the effort to build and deliver first set of IAAS (Insights as a Service) offerings for managing renewable assets. He was instrumental in $100M acquisition of Utopus Insights by Vestas Wind System A/S in February 2018. A passionate individual with deep and broad experience in using technology to solve the industry problems, Tarun has also created business value through technology innovation in the field of Merger and Acquisition, Supply Chain, Workforce Scheduling and Smarter Cities. He has over 20 publications, 40 patents, has received numerous IBM awards including Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, Industry Innovation Award, Outstanding Innovation Award and other IBM Corporate Awards.
