I am currently a Humanities teacher for grade 2. I also support the ELL students in the grade 2 classes.My responsibilities include teaching Humanities to a class of 25 students, preparing them for the common assessments, administrating these assessments, monitoring the student’s progress, and analysing the data to help me develop and plan my classroom instruction. I support the grade 2 teachers where I can and I try my best to support all the students across the four classes, so that they may be able to grasp the content better.

Due to the Covid breakout, the PreK 2 teacher was not available to teach. I stepped in and taught the PreK 2 class until the teacher was able to get into the country. I was the homeroom teacher and taught Mathematics, English and World history to the class of 25.

This was my first international position. It was a huge change coming from South Africa to China, but I adjusted well and I loved my grade 2 class. My responsibilities were to help support each learner throughout the school day so that they could reach their full potential. I would take a small group during each lesson and reassure them, go over any new work that was taught, help with questions and motivate them to give it a try on their own. This was my first job as a qualified foundation phase teacher. I was a grade 2 home room teacher. I cut, glued, printed and decorated my classroom in preparation for the students. They enjoyed their classroom and I loved teaching them. My responsibilities were to develop, plan and execute all the core subjects. (English, Afrikaans, Mathematics and Life skills)

I left school and I was not sure what I wanted to study. At that stage I was very into my horse riding and competing. A job opportunity came up and I started working at Rocking Horse Equestrian Centre as a riding instructor to the younger students. The owner saw my passion, and offered me the opportunity to take over the business and teaching. I was only 19 years old, but I gained so much experience. I learnt how to run my own business, take care of the staff, do quotes and admin, make and receive payments, look after horses, teach children, renting property, insurance, dealing with injuries of horses and children, organise meetings and pony camps, held competitions, maintaining the property... the list can go on. This experience is where I gained many skills including but not limited to; time management, positivity, patience, multi-tasking and respect for everyone.
