I split my time between [1] illustration and pattern design for books, magazines (and other markets) and [2] editorial (and project management and design) work, mostly for educational publishers. Given the nature of both these roles and industries this doesn’t really equate to working mornings on one and afternoons on the other, or three days a week on one and two on the other. Some periods will be heavily skewed to publishing work, while others will be more illustration heavy, though most days are likely to involve some tasks from each role. While they are separate, they do both feed into each other in terms of transferable skills and mindset. My love of spreadsheets and trackers and project management skills, as well as decades of editorial experience bring efficiency and attention to detail to my illustration and pattern design work. Meanwhile, my creativity feeds into problem solving within project management, and you also get the benefit of a design and editorial eye in one for editing projects. I have been working with Adobe software for many years (and before that with Quark XPress and Pagemaker) and am also an expert in typesetting resources in Word and PowerPoint, having worked on some of the first editable worksheets from the big educational publishers and continued ever since. I’ve worked with Hodder, Pearson, OUP and CUP on print and digital products, as well as for some of the exam boards, typesetting material. I’ve licensed and sold patterns through studios and direct for a number of years, and provided illustrations to individuals, organisations and businesses, for print and digital resources. My style is bold, flat and colourful, with a loose and stylised hand and mark-making or pattern to provide texture and detail. I work predominantly digitally, mostly using an iPad and Adobe Fresco, though also sometimes a SurfaceBook or Wacom Cintiq and Photoshop and Illustrator. I usually work in vector. I’m very happy to hear about new projects and opportunities in illustration and educational publishing. I only work remotely, though I’m happy to attend an occasional in-house meeting.

Illustrator And Pattern DesignerTasha Goddard Illustration And Design Jan 2013 - PresentStroud, GloucestershireI create relatable and comforting, colourful narrative illustrations for editorial and commercial clients, as well as patterns for brands and print studios. I am happy to work on projects from individual spot illustrations to full books and always try to keep enough time, even when working on a big long-term project, to fit in a quick illustration commission. I love depicting the joy and beauty of the everyday – from food, household objects and well-lived-in rooms, to ordinary interactions between friends. Most of my illustrations tell a story – even if it’s not one that’s actually been written down – and often elicit an emotional response, or at the very least a little smile. I do the bulk of my work in Adobe Fresco, but can also finish off in Photoshop or Illustrator, though I do still love to play around on paper with paints, markers and pencils. My style is loose and hand-drawn (even though technically digital), with a fairly consistent and bright colour palette. I tend to use mark-making or pattern to provide texture and detail.
