As a Process Development intern, I was part of the Exploratory Team which included researching and testing new ideas that could be utilized at the site we were working in. My projects during my 6 week internship included the following : 1) Analyze and convert an R&D engineer's ureteral stent design plans to efficient build plans for a set of prototypes, 2) Construct and refine the beginning stages of the ureteral stent prototype build process, 3) Optimize the use of a biocompatible synthetic polymer in the application of ureteral stents. Beyond my projects I participated and utilized numerous other tasks and procedures:• Characterization of guide wire material using FTIR• Characterization of guide wire material using a wire scrape test• Solidworks in developing a material use process• XMind in analyzing design plans• Clean room procedures• Material requisition forms• Building rotatable snare prototypes• Creating documentation of prototype formation• Updating Redlines• Technical Review Meetings• Worked in ISO 13485 Quality Setting

My research centered around tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for spinal cord injury. I mainly worked in the development of hydrogel biomaterials, which aim to provide a microenvironment that is conducive to healing at the site of injury. Additionally, I took part in testing the hydrogels in vivo, specifically in mice. Following surgeries, I assisted in extracting and cryosectioning tissues in order to further analyze through immunostaining. I have also assisted in additional procedures during my research:• Cell culture• Microparticle development using water in oil emulsion techniques• Instron measurements• Rheometer measurements• In Vivo Imaging System (IVIS)• Confocal microscopy• Light and fluorescence microscopyI was awarded the Dean's Prize Award for my poster presentation in the Undergraduate Research Poster Day on May 2016.

• Assist and tutor children ages 3-15 with questions and problems in assigned math or reading class work.• Grade homework and communicate with parents on the progress of their children in the program.• Prepare assignments, administer placement and achievement tests, and create documents for the center.

• Responsible for getting laboratory classrooms ready in between classes, making solutions for experiments, preparing all items and chemicals needed for experiments, and maintain safety sheets for chemicals present in the school’s inventory.

•Observed minor procedures such as endoscopies, tracheal intubations, and PICC line insertions and overviewed various patient cases under consent of nurse or physician’s assistant.•Rotated through several floors such as: the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, Medical Acute Care, Birth Center, Critical Care Unit, and Telemetry Department. •The tasks in each department ranged as the patients were at different critical levels; however, my main responsibility in each floor was to take patient vitals, assist in baths, gown/bed changes, and other daily living tasks.
