This moment presents a significant opportunity for City Year to understand how City Year is positioned externally and to think strategically about where it needs to go to deepen and evolve our impact to support students’ fulfillment of their potential – how we broadly and effectively communicate our impact, systems change, and AmeriCorps Member and alumni experience to existing and potential partners is crucial and under your leadership.Lead support, partner, and collaborate with a team of 19 marketing and communications professionals and Development leaders to work across a matrixed organization, leveraging opportunities, to not only support City Year as a national organization with a unified voice and brand, but also empower 29 local sites to elevate powerful, local stories of impact. The ability to lead a nationally aligned, locally relevant brand and narrative to elevate and strengthen City Year’s position and the voice of our students, AmeriCorps members, and alumni. The Marketing and Communications team is engaged in the following areas: marketing, brand management, digital/social media, creative and graphic design, media relations, and amplifying thought leadership and storytelling for a variety of audiences, including prospective AmeriCorps members, donors, sponsors, partner organizations, media, policymakers, and alumni.

City Year helps students and schools succeed. Fueled by national service, City Year partners with public schools in 29 urban, high-need communities across the U.S. and through international affiliates in the U.K. and Johannesburg, South Africa. Diverse teams of City Year AmeriCorps members provide research-based student, classroom and school-wide supports to help students stay in school and on track to graduate from high school, ready for college and career success. A 2015 study shows that schools that partner with City Year were up to 2-3 times more likely to improve on math and English assessments. City Year Columbus was established in 1994, with a startup corps of 40 strong. Today, 62 AmeriCorps members are deployed in 7 Columbus City Schools serving as student success coaches. These coaches work as tutors and mentors implementing CYCO's Whole School, Whole Child program in some of the city's most under-resourced schools. For the 2019-20 school year, Columbus AmeriCorps members will provide targeted interventions to over 600 students across its ABC intervention areas of Attendance, Behavior, and Course performance in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. In this role Tasha serves as the primary leader, internal manager, strategist, external champion, and builder of the Columbus site. Develops and leads CYCO's annual and long-term strategy and priorities. Assumes ultimate oversight and responsibility for executing fiscally-sound budgeting, forecasting, expense management, resource allocations and cash flow within an annual operating budget of $2.9 million. Advances the site goals, serving as the public face of CYCO by representing the organization and the cause to key stakeholders in the local, national community including private sector funders and sponsors.

Program DetailsThe NextGen Fellowship is a 12 month leadership development program that aims to identify and develop a diverse group of exceptional emerging senior leaders with the potential to strengthen and shape the future of the educational excellence and equity movement.The movement for excellence and equity in American education is at a critical juncture. As this work evolves, it is important to cultivate and support leaders who bring diverse voices and perspectives to the movement, particularly those who represent communities that are currently not well served by our public schools. By identifying individuals who can amplify underrepresented voices, and providing them with high-level leadership development and networking opportunities, this fellowship encourages and supports those who will become senior leaders in the field and helps strengthen the educational equity and excellence movement by engaging more diverse perspectives.

Since 1988, I Know I Can has made higher education a reality for tens of thousands Columbus City Schools students. It is one of the largest and most successful college access programs in the nation and the only college access program of its kind in Columbus.Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, accountable for the organization’s resource development and public relations activities. Planned, organized, and directed fundraising for an annual budget of $4M. This included responsibilities for major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns. Worked closely with the Board of Directors and responsible for leading the Board Development Committee.
