The desire to make an impact has influenced my education, my career choices, and my growing family. After graduating from Wheaton College (IL), I spent three years working in construction and forestry. In early 2010 I worked with The Global Orphan Project (GO Project) as a lead volunteer. I soon moved into a Project Manager role alongside of the GO Project team in Haiti. This position connected my natural desire to learn, my ability to innovate and my belief in local leadership with my passion to see communities flourish. I relocated to GO Project’s Kansas City, MO headquarters and stepped into the role of leading research and development for the launch into partnerships within the US child welfare system. From 2013-2018, I was able to leverage my natural ability to build relationships across racial and socioeconomic lines as the State Director for CarePortal (Kansas and Missouri). My work has become a model for nationwide implementation. In addition to my role at CarePortal, I’ve acted as a consultant for a variety of child welfare initiatives in Kansas and Missouri. I launched CoBuild in 2018 to develop creative innovations for job training in the construction industry in Kansas City. CoBuild works at the intersection of affordable housing construction and workforce development. Emerging Builders, Inc. was a natural outgrowth from the ideas fostered at CoBuild. Today, CoBuild, LLC and Emerging Builders, Inc. work together to leverage the construction industry and make it work for those who traditionally have been outsiders to the industry. Specifically women and people of color. Now, instead of looking for “something more meaningful” I’m making meaning in the places I find myself. My wife, Dr. Abby Williams, and I are raising 6 amazing children who have joined our family biologically and through adoption. We strive daily to help our children be healthy as they learn to embrace their full story. We live in the historic, vibrant and beautiful Pendleton Heights Neighborhood in Kansas City, MO where we enjoy life with some of our closest friends.
