West Coast Aquatic designs and facilitates multiparty processes that increase collaboration in natural resource management to help people see their values reflected in the decisions that affect them. As Executive Director, Tawney is responsible for organizational oversight and supporting the implementation of the Coastal Strategy (an integrated ocean management plan), including ecosystem based management and governance. Projects flowing out of the Coastal Strategy include:- Marine Ecosystem Reference Guide - This decision support tool take an ecosystem approach and describes the characteristics of an area, its suitability for various uses and activities, and its vulnerability to a variety of stressors. The Guide helps match the right activities to the right locations, based on the values and interests of multiple sectors, ecological assessments, emerging economic opportunities, and potential trade-offs. Use of the Guide may support everything from the pursuit of new technologies, building of business partnerships, evaluation of potential development impacts, marketing, passing zoning regulations, making policy recommendations, research, and public education.- Salmon Strategies, developed at multi-sector roundtables that address harvest management, stewardship and production.- Multi-sector facilitation of regional environmental and social issues.

Tawney Lem Consulting has been providing a wide range of consulting services since 2001. Working in several fields and with a high level of expertise, Ms. Lem has enjoyed a successful practice built primarily through referrals. Ms. Lem's work values and establishes long-term relationships with her clients to realize their goals and objectives. Tawney works with First Nations, Indigenous organizations, not-for-profit organizations, and local and regional governments.Tawney Lem provides technical support and services to build the internal capacity of organizations with a focus on: Governance Policy Development, Strategic Planning, and Facilitation.Tawney has a B.A. in Political Science from UBC, and a Certificate in Dialogue and Civic Engagement from SFU.

Tawney worked with the Hupacasath community assisting with their development of mandates for the negotiating team. At the broader Nuu-chah-nulth treaty table, Ms. Lem provided technical assistance to several committees, including Lands, Natural Resources, Governance, and Constitution.Tawney also served the natural resources department within the Hupacasath community by establishing a consultation process, analyzing and responding to referrals, developing a land use plan, and coordinating a land use study.
