I oversee the Library's digital preservation program. On any given day, I can be seen doing any of the following activities:1. Staying current with developing technologies, standards, and practice in the field and strategically planning for next steps to ensure the program’s long-term viability2. Conducting presentations and workshops for both internal (Library-wide) and external (Utah-wide) partners in order to increase their understanding of digital preservation needs 3. Marketing and promoting new and existing services to internal and external partners4. Working with collection managers to evaluate and prioritize collections for preservation 5. Gathering statistics regarding growth of the digital archive and appropriately planning for future sustainability6. Championing digital preservation interests across the university and community at large7. Ensuring satisfaction and competency of full and part-time staff (as well as interns and volunteers)8. Supporting and contributing to State-wide and National digital preservation efforts

In this position, I was tasked with taking a 30 year backlog of audio-visual collections that had never been overseen by a Moving Image Archivist before and creating a usable archive from the ground up! Some of my duties included:1. Assessing a 30 year backlog of collection materials and planning a suitable method for initial program organization2. Organizing collections and ensuring that damaged or fragile tapes and films received proper conservation treatments3. Conducting community outreach to acquire unique audio-visual collections for the Archives4. Providing community workshops and reference services for patrons and community members5. Working regularly with filmmakers licensing footage from our collections to be used in television and film productions6. Duplicating and editing film, video, and audio collections for access and marketing purposes7. Creating flyers to advertise community events 8. Hiring, training, and supervising full and part-time employees and interns
