Job Tasks-Review, comment, and process equipment and system submittals-Generate project specifications appropriate for the project-Perform coordination between architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, process and all electrical trades-Input electrical equipment information into Revit models-Prepare designs, check, and specify power, lighting and auxiliary systems-Prepare power system single line diagrams, to include feeder and over current protection sizing, and equipment elevations-Conduct short circuit and over current protection device coordination studies as well as arc flash mitigation studies-Perform calculations required to determine distribution capacity due to voltage drop, voltage droop or underground heat effect (Neher-McGrath)-Resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors

I learned coordination study concepts from the engineers that work at Trace. They gave me an understanding of how important it is to selecting the proper protective equipment when designing power systems for customers. Coordination between protective devices is key not only to prevent widespread damage but also for safety, cost savings, and to maintain functionality in the majority of the system. I was taught how their testing equipment operates, as well as learning about the new SEL digital relays that are now taking over the market. I went to a training seminar for programming and assessing problems in SEL-751 and SEL-751A feeder protection relays while interning at Trace.
