Started as a Laboratory Technical Assistant in Anatomic Pathology. These duties included triaging specimens coming from surgery, ordering correct tests, answering questions from providers, loading tissue onto the correct processor cycle, maintaining tissue processors and following safety protocols. As a grossing technician I did these tasks along with grossing simple small tissue biopsies. The grossing process involved measuring and describing each specimen, sectioning larger colon biopsies if necessary, ensuring each specimen gets put on the correct processing cycle, and ensuring no samples get mixed around.

The first 3 years of my college career I worked as a stockroom assistant. Some job duties included preparing lab solutions, equipment maintenance, cleaning spills, and cleaning the labs. I also made sure the chemical inventory was up to date in our lab information system which includes adding new chemicals and taking chemicals out of inventory that have been used up. For my final year I was promoted to team lead where I performed the same duties as well as ensuring all the other stockroom workers are following correct protocols and being available for questions/help.
