• Advocated before and cultivated relationships with state lawmakers and regulators to advance wide-ranging member company objectives in Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.• Served as State Relations’ subject matter and advocacy lead on issues of reinsurance, innovation/technology (e.g., AI, algorithmic decision-making, big data), market conduct, and race and insurance, developing and deploying proactive and protective strategies, creating lobbying and briefing materials, and monitoring activity across ACLI committees and at organizations such as NAIC, NCOIL, and NCSL.• Tracked, analyzed, and reported on, internally and externally, legislation, hearings, regulatory activity, and political trends in assigned states, assessing for emerging issues and potential threats.• Managed state trades and retained counsel in assigned states and collaborated regularly with industry trade groups, business coalitions, and other external stakeholders to deliver favorable outcomes.• Oversaw ACLI's state PACs, developed strategies for political giving, and attended fundraising events.• Worked closely with ACLI’s policy, legal, and tax departments and their policymaking committees to receive feedback from and mobilize members’ subject matter experts and ensure alignment of state advocacy with ACLI policies/positions.• Served as ACLI’s lead at NCSL meetings and attended NAIC and NCOIL meetings as needed. • Served as department editor for various external-facing State Relations’ publications, including ACLI's second most read publication.

• Managed and co-managed ACLI policymaking committees, working groups, and task forces, including the Risk Classification Committee, Big Data Task Force, and Genetic Testing Task Force, among others, engaging discussion and bringing members to consensus on complex issues affecting industry, creating draft models and bulletins, and contributing to the development of ACLI board policies and positions.• Led ACLI's Innovation Subcommittee, driving senior management and member company attention to emerging technology issues in insurance.• Advocated before the NAIC, IAIS, and FIO, attending stakeholder meetings and submitting comment letters and industry responses on issues such as AI and supervision of insurance groups.• Prepared briefings for senior leadership, including CEO, and reports for ACLI’s steering committees. • Monitored and reported on legislative and regulatory developments related to insurance innovation, risk classification, underwriting, privacy, financial solvency, and other issues, as assigned, developing talking points and issue one-pagers. • Regularly attended and reported on NAIC national meetings.
