About Taylor Balkom
My passion for journalism started in 2011, when I began writing for the entertainment section of my college newspaper. I found my love of photography through working at Best Buy and naturally combined the two passions. After college, where I occupied multiple staff and management roles at The Daily Reveille, I moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, for my first newspaper job out of school. I spent three years covering everything Alaska's First City had to offer — from basketball tournaments and fishing derbies to totem pole raisings and retirement parties. After Alaska, I moved to New York City for 10 months, where I had odd jobs in the city in addition to freelancing. I moved to Oregon in 2018 and have continued my photojournalism career through working with various outlets like The Oregonian, Scorebook Live and The Columbian.
