Data Science Intern

Lincoln, Nebraska Metropolitan Area

For my Jeffrey S. Raikes Design Studio project, I worked for DMSi to create a machine learning-based recommendation system for an internal client tool. I collaborated on a small team both remotely and in person. We used Dataiku for database cleanup and to prepare data for our custom models written in Python. I designed and implemented a highly accurate and customer-verified NLP + KModes model that learned how to provide clients with customized recommendations. Our model went through multiple iterations through design and implementation to increase client satisfaction. In our client validation phase, we sampled numerous clients, and 100% of them preferred our ML-based recommendations over the current ones.

Software Engineer Intern

Lincoln, Nebraska, United States

During my time at Nelnet, I worked on a project that focused on providing payment services to the company's many service branches. I worked remotely with a team of about 15 developers, following the principles of AGILE software development. I mainly used C#, .NET Core, Angular, and SQL. We used Azure DevOps for sprint planning, task logs, retros, and pipelines. I, along with a group of 4 other interns, designed and presented a mock website to Nelnet executives to showcase an idea of how we could expand the company's business model. During the school year, I helped onboard an intern by teaching him the team-specific practices and technologies I had learned during my time there.

Software Engineer Intern

Lincoln, Nebraska Area

I worked at Don't Panic Labs full-time for two summers and half-time for a school year. During my time there, I worked on two main projects. The first summer, I worked on a project called BenefitEd. On this project, I used C#, ASP.NET, SQL, and front-end languages including Razor and Javascript. I was highly engaged in client meetings where I would showcase my work and provide input and feedback on additions to the project. I attended company-provided classes called "Vogon Poetries" where I would learn about software best practices and new technologies. At the end of the internship, I, along with the other interns, gave a talk to the company and other local software engineers about our learning experiences working that Summer.During the second summer and next school year, I worked on a project called MyLNK. On this project, I worked as a full-stack engineer along with two other engineers. Together we created a cross-platform application and a website (mylnk.app) which were designed to assist low-income and struggling individuals in the area of Lancaster County by providing them with information about the free assistance resources near them. The application was created using mainly Nativescript, Angular, and Typescript. The website was purely Angular and Typescript. For database management on both the application and website, we used Firebase's real-time database. For source control, build automation, and CI/CD, we used Azure DevOps. We also gave talks around the Lincoln area, presenting our product to health workers and potential customers. Our application currently has 20K+ downloads and our website was accepted into Lincoln Public Schools's suite of online student resources.
