Research Intern For The Hon. David Feeney MpAustralian National Internship Program Feb 2014 - May 2014Australian Parliament HouseIn 2014, I was accepted into the elite Australian National Internship Program and was tasked with writing a 9000-word research report on behalf of the Hon. David Feeney MP. This paper was to be used as Mr. Feeney’s submission to a senate inquiry into Australia’s role in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.Over a four month period I undertook a combination of document and field research, in the form of interviews with government and expert stakeholders, in order to provide an accurate picture of Australia’s current Antarctic investment and activities. I collated and analysed qualitative material, and regularly communicated my progress to Mr Feeney and his senior staff members. A key output of this paper was options for change regarding Australia’s role in the Antarctic. My work was extremely well received by Mr. Feeney. Perhaps the greatest testament to my achievements was that my paper was submitted in its entirety and completely unchanged by the minister to the senate inquiry, which released its final report in October 10 2014.
