Paralegal Specialist
CurrentCivil Rights Division, Criminal Section• Assisting trial attorneys in active prosecutions by assisting in documenting and producing discovery material to defense counsel• Creating binders for court and presenting exhibits during trial • Working on high profile cases that involves hate crimes, color of law and human trafficking • Conducting phone interviews• Outreach to aggrieved persons• Performing investigative research on potential victims• Organizing and maintaining litigation files• Assisting with coordinating witness pretrial interviews• Drafting routine legal correspondence under the supervision of attorneys• Conducting factual and legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis/ Courtlink and PACER- Blue Booking Citations • Performing privilege reviews under the guidance of an attorney• Assist with general office duties by reviewing citizen correspondence, analyzing citizen complaints, and communicating that analysis both verbally and in writing to supervising attorneys, and obtaining information from citizens who contact the office by phone;• Working with the Interactive Case Management (ICM) system to track the status of cases pending in the office• Utilizing computer databases to conduct research
