I work in the lab of Dr. Yi Gu studying the role of the Medial Entorhinal Cortex (MEC) in spatial navigation and memory. We want to understand the role that the MEC plays in spatial learning in healthy mice and how MEC dysfunction contributes to navigation deficits in Alzheimer's Disease.-Performed in-vivo two-photon calcium imaging on mice running in virtual reality-Developed a novel visual discrimination task performed in new virtual reality-Wrote code to analyze calcium imaging data

I worked under Dr. Leonard Kaczmarek studying the Slack sodium-activated potassium channel and the role of gain-of-function mutations in epilepsy and intellectual disability-Identified a novel mechanism by which activation or mutation of Slack channels regulates mRNA translation-Wrote custom Matlab programs to automate image acquisition and analysis on a two-photon microscope-Performed structural analysis to identify mechanisms behind gain-of-function Slack mutations-Generated Markov models to simulate single-channel recordings

Worked under Dr. Amy Yee, first as part of the Tufts Summer Scholars Program, then while conducting my Senior Thesis. The project has potential applications for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.Induced seizures in HBP1 KO mice and analyzed RNA and protein expression levels in the hippocampus at varying time points for elements of Wnt signaling, mTor signaling, and the Warburg effect. These are suspected to be part of the mechanism relating the HBP1 KO mice to increased seizure susceptibility. Additionally, created programs in Matlab to analyze the EEG data of these mice to find quantitative differences EEG profile.

Worked for Dr. Michael Levin. Assisted in the creation of a formalized database designed to organize and share the vast information on planarian and limb regeneration experiments. Both are important model systems in regenerative biology with potentially valuable implications for mammalian regeneration and cancer growth. The database will aid the formation of global models of regeneration through the use of computer simulations.This work resulted in 4 publications.
