As Advocacy Supervisor, I work alongside the Advocacy Team to analyze local, state, and national policies and support strategic initiatives toward ensuring Mainers have the food and housing they need. Within this role, I collect and analyze data, identify policy and administrative barriers to reducing poverty, coordinate with the Advocacy team and partners to develop and implement strategic advocacy campaigns and coalitions, and support the Advocacy Team Leader in their work.

As the Outreach Team Leader, my work supports Preble Street efforts to end hunger and homelessness in Maine by providing direction and leadership to Homeless Voices for Justice (HVJ) and the Food Justice Coalition (FJC). This work involves policy advocacy and community organizing to support positive policy change at the local, state, and federal level to ensure Mainers have the food and housing they need. Within this position, I also provide administrative, data management, and grant writing support; share responsibility for staff orientation and training; and work alongside other staff and community providers to ensure timely delivery of advocacy and organizing efforts. This position also serves as a liaison to community and political partners, and works to organize and coordinate advocacy efforts across Preble Street.

Within this position, I conducted research necessary to craft a Request for Proposals(RFP) for my supervisor within the Department. The goal of this RFP was to call for individuals and/or organizations to put forward proposals that would work toward the connection of individuals and organizations working in the attraction and retention sphere within the State of Maine. Due to the disconnected nature of this area of work in Maine, it was necessary for me to engage in conversation with a variety of individuals, both within Maine and outside of it, to determine how best to conduct this research, and to go about crafting language that would encourage individuals with diverse ideas to submit proposals. While the RFP itself has not yet come to fruition, the internship greatly improved my ability to conduct individual research and build network connections.

Focus: Welcome Home Program, Economic Recovery Committee (Innovation and Infrastructure Subcommittees)

Maintained an updated list of organizations active under UMSG, updated Student Organizations Database on the UMSG. Communicated regularly with organizations that work with UMSG, both through email and in-person. Led weekly meetings of the Student Organizations Committee, oversaw recognition and management of organizations. Served as the main point of contact for organizations, and oversaw any other miscellaneous issues that arose regarding student organizations.

Campus Organizer for ME Dems at the University of Maine during the 2018 midterm election season. Primary focus was on GOTV. Launched canvasses, registered voters, organized rides to and from the polls. Participated in meetings for UMaine UVote and worked with other Campus Organizers in Maine to encourage youth voting on college campuses statewide.

Assisted students, faculty, and staff at UMaine with questions related to University-owned or personal laptops. Assistance provided in-person, over email, and over the phone. Primary specifications; account password resets, software download, and issues that arise with educational programs.
