It provided 8 modules on various Earth systems, for each of which students were required to write a 7+ page technical report and design creation/modeling pertaining to the respective module (both assigned on a biweekly basis). The final project was a capstone project on how April's solar eclipse was predicted to affect different bird species, and played a big role on my admittance to the corresponding summer academy. This program demanded 11 hours biweekly. I used these credits to bypass EVSC 2800 (Intro to Geology) at UVA.VESSS invite-only Summer Acadamy (rising college freshman, 1 college credit):The summer academy took place at NASA Langley Research Center. I was appointed Deputy Project Scientist and Research Scientist in a team of 40, with my primary responsibility being to align our teams' efforts to track shifts in bird migration patterns due to recent climate changes. On the more technical side, I led my team in navigating different hypothetical satellite telemetry systems and ground systems. At the end of the academy, my collogues and I presented our work panel-style to a 150+ member audience (online and in person) including NASA personnel, afterward answering their questions based on our respective positions.
