In order to stand out from the competition, I developed a strategy offering full colour edge to edge printed envelopes using the latest inkjet equipment. The design of our website was based on the principle of Data, Design, Print and Mail which lead to providing a whole range of mailing opportunities. What started with overprinted envelopes, quickly developed into data analysis, lithographic and digital printing, envelope enclosing and postage. Businesses would come to us with basic print requirements e.g., 1000 letterheads then this would develop into other areas as we provided information on what else we can do. EMS was soon recognised by Royal Mail to be a valued supplier and was therefore offered a Strategic Partnership status where Royal Mail introduced prospects directly to us to advise on mailing options, quotations and complete if accepted. EMS provided services to a wide range of companies from your local retail, charities, local councils, home improvements and broadband, associations and other nonprofit organisations. My main activity was the production of mailing material which included artwork design advice, data checking and formatting, printing of enclosures either in house or outsourced and the final mail piece ready for despatch. My other responsibilities were mainly concerned with growing the business which appeared to work as the premises became too small. At the time, one of our print suppliers expressed an interest in acquiring the business which resulted in my move to the William Pollard group.
