• Responsible for the entire product development process from idea to production.• Designed new products, made improvements to existing products and evaluated products, parts and processes for cost efficiency and reliability.• Additional responsibilities included a concentration on energy absorbing designs, the employment of new technology, failure mode analysis and product testing.• Modeled and evaluated products using SolidWorks 3D CAD Design software.• Validated and optimized designs using SolidWorks Simulation Professional FEA software package (formerly known as COSMOSWorks).• Extensively used ‘environmentally friendly’, recycled and recyclable materials in all designs with a focus on Polycarbonate (PC) and HDPE.• Built and tested prototypes in an ‘active learning’ process to further evaluate design concepts, material selection and assist in customer feedback.• Traveled to both customers and vendors to build relationships and discuss projects.• Worked closely with vendors to ensure project success and to reduce manufacturing costs through proper Design-For-Manufacturing and Design-For-Assembly.• Successfully employed the use of Injection Molding, Extrusion, Rotational-Molding, Thermoforming, Machining, Stamping, Forming, Sheet Metal and Sand Casting.• Design materials have included various Steel and Aluminum alloys, PC, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PVC, ABS, PP, Urethane Rubbers, Silicones and EPDM’s.• Managed anywhere between 3 and 6 design projects at a time and worked either on a team or alone depending on project complexity.• Worked across department lines to increase sales, create marketing material, support customer needs and maintain product quality.• Employed and led Cross-Functional-Teams to ensure successful Product Launches.• Clients have included IKEA, Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Best Buy, Safeway and many large retailers in Canada, Europe, Asia and South America.
