Engages in public land and natural resources management and other conservation planning processes to ensure that federal departments and agencies address climate change impacts and adaptation for wildlife. Researches climate sensitivity of imperiled U.S. wildlife species. Advocates to ensure that the threat of climate change is weighed appropriately in listing, management, and recovery planning for endangered and threatened species. Identifies and promotes the best available scientific information on climate change and wildlife adaptation to federal, state, tribal and local governments to incorporate that information in climate adaptation planning, policies, and strategies. Analyzes and drafts technical comments in response to proposed regulatory changes, administrative policy proposals and project-level actions affecting wildlife and habitat climate change adaptation. Analyzes proposed legislation, and works with other staff and partners to educate Congressional offices on climate change adaptation for wildlife and habitats. Currently co-leading the updating of the National Fish, Wildlife and Plants Climate Adaptation Strategy. Contributing member of the Freshwater Workgroup of the America the Beautiful for All coalition. Provided input to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and the National Climate Assessment. Engaged with the conservation finance and sustainability movements to embed more climate, ecosystem, and wildlife-friendly strategies and practices into the business and finance sectors. Represents Defenders in public meetings, hearings, news media, conferences, coalitions, and in general communications with public officials, legislators, the media, and the public.

Oversaw all of the science issues associated with strategic conservation projects at the Conservation Fund, including developing multi-state, multi-species habitat conservation plans for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the wind and natural gas industries. Defined the use of conservation planning and science tools, managed subcontractors, coordinated technical teams, developed assessment protocols, designed habitat models and green infrastructure networks, performed ecosystem service valuations, and reviewed pertinent literature. Authored planning documents, reports, and journal articles on conservation science and strategic conservation planning, and presented work at numerous professional conferences, workshops, meetings, and training seminars. Project manager for landscape, watershed, and field-based ecological assessments throughout the U.S.A., developing tools and data to identify and prioritize areas for conservation and restoration. Worked on numerous climate change projects on both mitigation (e.g., emission reductions and carbon capture) and increasing resilience (e.g., natural solutions to reduce coastal flooding and allow marsh migration). Worked with county staff throughout Maryland to secure grants, identify key natural resources, identify potential sites for tree planting, identify key preservation and restoration opportunities to protect vulnerable populations against inland and coastal flooding, create and document green infrastructure plans, and update comprehensive plans.

Created Maryland's first green infrastructure assessment and helped create the GreenPrint program, used to help land conservation targeting. Collected wetland data in long-term research project in the Nanticoke watershed. Surveyed properties for acquisition potential, both on the ground and by helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. Assisted numerous other projects. Managed team performing bird and vegetation data collection and analyses.
