I started teaching in August 2005. During the course of my first year at CSC, I was actively involved with the return of the Nebraska Small Business Development Center to Chadron, and I am the current director. I became a trainer for the Home Town Competitiveness program that CSC is co-sponsoring with various NE State and economic development agencies. I continue working with the College and community on helping or developing community based non-profit/s for accomplishing projects that we as a community have not been able to complete.

The NE Small Business Development Center provides counseling and training for small businesses in the functional areas of business. In addition, we do research and provide assistance to communities in our service area.The NE SBDC has been given a contract to work with active duty and veterans to provide counseling and start-up help. We developed an online Active Duty & Vets website so we can work with NE military personnel regardless of location. This is an exciting new development for SBDC's diverse tool box.

As the Score DD for SD, it was my responsibility to coordinate activities between the various Score chapters in SD and the National Score HQ in Washington, DC. This allowed me to find creative ways to use our limited financial resources to provide counseling and training to small businesses in SD. As a note: I joined Score in September of 1979 in Minneapolis MN. I was the SBDC State Director and wanted to work closely with Score, we set up a Score office in our St. Paul SBDC office, it was a win win for everyone. .

As interm ED for Preserve SD, I was tasked with raising money, continuing the good work of historic building preservation in SD, and to create new market opportunities for the organization.One of the opportunities was to work with the United Sioux Tribe and to incorporate their historical locations into our preservation process. Typically we would work with the National Trust on old buildings, but this presented new challenges, such as the preservation of language, music, methods of crafts for a nomadic life style. It was a great experience.In addition, I started to work with small rural communities on how to incorporate historic preservation into community revitalization and development. I am still fortunate to work with small communities today in NE through the SBDC and the Home Town Competitiveness program.

The Small Business Institute (SBI) was a program sponsored by the SBA . We were tasked to provide small business assistance through the coordination of student teams managed by a business faculty adviser on the key functional areas of business. I coordinated programs at the various colleges in MN.The program gave students a real world and practical glimpse into what they could expect. It separated academic from boots on the ground. In 1976, as an adult learner student, I participated in a Small Business Administration (SBI) business project at the U of St. Thomas. The case won a SBA District and Regional Award and was one of five cases selected for National Award honors. In April of 1981, as faculty, my SBI team received the District, Regional, and National Award for an SBI case. In 1982, as faculty, another of my SBI teams received the District, and Regional SBI Award. I believe I am the only person in the country to have won a National SBI award as a student and faculty adviser. The Independent Business Association of Minnesota awarded me the “Small Business Champion” for 1983, for my research study "Minnesota Business and Jobs," 1967 82 (Study of Minnesota Manufacturing Climate), Small Business Development Center, St. Paul, MN. I was elected as a delegate to the MN White House Conference on Small Business .
