Community Relations Intern
As a Community Relations Intern with the Carolina Hurricanes my role was to make lasting impacts in the local community by leveraging the positive influences a professional sport organization provides. I coordinated player appearances for the annual Canes Community Day, executed the Pick Up a Book and Read Program, fulfilled donation and community requests and executed/assisted with major fundraising events. Some events that I was a part of include the Kids 'N Community Golf Tournament, Skate with the Canes and the annual Casino Night and Wine Tasting. These events raised $90,000, $40,000 and $280,000, respectively. All proceeds generated from such events go directly back to the Kids 'N Community Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Carolina Hurricanes, which works to assist underserved North Carolinians through grants and funding.
Ticketing Intern
As a Ticketing Intern with NASCAR's Watkins Glen International I was responsible for high-volume ticket order fulfillment for mailing and will call for major facility events such as Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen, NASCAR race weekend, the Vintage Grand Prix and the Finger Lakes Wine Festival. I also frequently interacted with the fan base through window and phone ticket sales using the FanTracker system. Moreover, I provided excellent customer service skills by solving customer concerns over the phone, via email and through action form inquiries. Additional duties I took on were the supervision of will call during NASCAR weekend and the fabrication of all credential boards for gate entrance. Through ticketing I was exposed to many aspects of the NASCAR industry--including planning, security, gate flow, concessions, sales, customer service and marketing. Lastly, I developed enhanced oral and written communication skills as well as improved my ability to extensively multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Development Intern
While a Development Intern with the College Sport Research Institute my main duties were to sell memberships and secure funding for the conference. Through a blend of cold calling and email I was able to sell the second most memberships on the team and was instrumental in reaching out to potential donors under the guidance of the Funding and Sponsorship Chair of the conference. In addition, I was able to provide input on the planning and coordination of the conference as well as help to brainstorm social events for attendees to promote increased attendance and interest. Similarly, I suggested ideas for the enrichment of a reward system for members in recognition of their support.
