Let me tell you about my path to generating $770,000 in sales with, genuinely, no experience.I’m a student a Western University, born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario…My first ever paid position was as a dishwasher in an Italian kitchen and then as a crew member at Mcdonalds. After that, I was a cook at Philthy Phillies, worked as an artwork & furniture mover/deliverer, and then a construction job.When I say no experience in sales, I mean it.I only have good things to say about where I worked previously but I always got the sense that I was settling.Around comes second year of university. I get a call from my sister’s friend telling me about her summer working with a student entrepreneurship program and asking if I would be interested in having her recommend me. (spoiler: I said yes)I get a call the next day from another Western University student named Kyle, who ended up becoming my first mentor.With his help, I went from being a minimum wage employee to generating $70,000 in sales, managing 4 employees, and taking home over $24,000 in profit in my first year.Looking back, this was the first time I really felt like what I was doing was opening doors.During this first year running a business, I learned many valuable lessons. The one lesson that has had the biggest impact is understanding the importance of having/finding the right information, the right people, and the right systems.Using the same systems that had already been used by other students to generate $200M in sales, I finished my second year running the business having generated $275,000 in revenue.I have since taken the opportunity to become a coach to 4 other students.I am now the person that I needed when I started and I couldn’t be happier.In the last year, the students I coach have generated over $350,000 in sales and gained the experience and skills that often take decades to acquire.That means $126,000 in the pockets of the first-time business owners I’ve had the privilege of mentoring.If you feel like you have what it takes to run your own business, stop settling.
