I am a sociologist and Assistant Professor of Legal Studies at UMass Amherst. I teach and study human trafficking law, the criminalization of migration, and inequality. I have a PhD in Sociology from UC Irvine. Prior to beginning my doctoral studies I worked over ten years in international development and human rights advocacy - as an advocate, program manager, and educator - primarily working for organizations addressing human trafficking, migrant labor exploitation, and sexual violence. I've lived and worked in the US, UK, Brazil and Cambodia.
