As a Across Sector Lead for this Whanganui-based initiative, I helped promote collaborative ways of working, sharing best educational practices across the education sector, to raise ākonga and whānau engagement and achievement, ensuring smooth transition of new strategies throughout the learning community. The project was designed to nurture the hauora of the tamariki, our whānau, ourselves and the community, by embedding practices to support working together and for each other.

I had the opportunity to oversee the school-wide objectives in relation to mātauranga Māori, creating a culturally inclusive and responsive learning environment that supported all ākonga/students to achieve their academic potential. I was able to embed tangata whenua values within the school systems, policies and practices, to strengthen the bi-cultural confidence and competence of staff, ākonga and the Board of Trustees.
