Jacob Aringo is a S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) teacher at Herbert Hoover Middle School in San Francisco. He has been teaching for 13 years as a high school science, math, and technology teacher and middle school S.T.E.A.M teacher. Jacob Aringo is a fellow graduate of SF State with a B.S. in Biology: Concentration in Ecology and a M.S. in Education: Concentration in Instructional Technology. He is part of the Exploratorium Leadership Institute where he mentors 1st and 2nd years teachers in the Exploratorium Teacher Institute program. His professional interests is applying motivation systems and gamification principles in his instructional designs to motivate youth across difference in learning S.T.E.A.M. He is a fan of learning by doing. It gives students an opportunity to investigate and immerse themselves in a variety of real world S.T.E.A.M based dilemmas, apply habits of minds and 21st century skillsets, and innovate to solve real world problems. In the S.T.E.A.M program, students explore the concepts of innovation and design thinking and use those concept to design and build solutions for a better future.Out of the school setting, he is currently a boxing trainer at Rise Combat Gym.
