James Turner is the founder of CISO Lens, and has specialised as a security industry analyst and advisor since 2005. James facilitates connections and collaboration across organisations, industries and countries. James gathers, curates and disseminates information that is of strategic importance and provides evidence based decision support to the security executives from Australia and New Zealand’s largest organisations. Before creating CISO Lens, James was an Advisor at local advisory firm, IBRS. During his 11 years with IBRS, James authored over 100 peer-reviewed advisory notes for clients, presented at all the major security conferences in Australia, and facilitated dozens of executive roundtables.From 2013 to 2016, James was the appointed Chair of the Advocacy Group and an authorised spokesperson for the Australian Information Security Association (AISA). This volunteer work entailed providing public commentary on various security issues and helping raise the profile of AISA.In 2019, James was designated an AustCyber AllStar in recognition for his years of supporting and advocating the Australian security industry, as well as for the publication of the CISO Lens Benchmark, which AustCyber stated was a globally unique resource.Between March 2020 and June 2021, James conducted over 1,000 interviews across the CISO Lens member base, as well as with other industry contacts, in an effort to help identify and distribute better information to support the security decisions of CISO Lens members. James still writes occasional opinion pieces and provides commentary on cyber security matters, and is one of the most experienced facilitators of security executive discussions in the region.
