Advice is given on future IT business needs, leading on to the negotiation and procurement of all new desktop infrastructures taking into account the strict budgetary controls in force. The telephone system consists of 202 Analogue and 32 Digital handsets and 6 Fax/Modem outlets. My primary role is the on-going maintenance of this system and encompasses the creation and programming of new extensions, hunt groups, direct dial extensions, krone switch patching and all moves and changes. The Computer Hardware consists of a Bull Dx20 UNIX server with 49 terminals and 8 Printers, a Novell 3.12 Server with 25 PC's and a small network of 6 PC's running NT4 server and workstation. I also provide support to the Establishment's additional 60 computers not covered by the Racal contract. This encompasses monitoring, reporting and fault rectification along with on-going maintenance. - Coordinated the migration from British Telecom to Racal.- Managed the installation of 240 Voice and 64 Data Communication points.- Trained the Establishment staff on the use of new system.- On-going training of all PC Software. - Responsible for all Data Safety and Emergency Recovery procedures.

Remote Support was administered using a combination of Odyssey, Pro-Comm Plus and Spedi-Com communications packages. The 18 workstations in house utilised Novell NetWare with Windows 3.11 providing access to Microsoft Word and Excel with the Call-Logging facility utilising, a personally developed, Microsoft Access database. - Introduced fully computerised Stock Control system utilising Sage Sterling. - Increased the Quantity of preparation from one to three systems per day. - Improved the Quality of preparation resulting in 80% fewer support calls.Many of the in-house applications required extensive alterations to conform to the developing standards and formed a new standardised set of in-house applications. The administration tasks of systems preparation were almost fully automated to substantially reduce the requirements placed upon the department, and its structure and processing techniques now form the basis of the company's standardisation policy.
