I love what I do! I am a Recruiting & Retention NCO full time and a part time Drill Sergeant for the New York Army National Guard. As Recruiting & Retention NCO I look for highly motivated individuals who want to join the National Guard and I help keep those good Soldiers who want to stay in, stay in. I also train our new recruits part time at our Recruit Sustainment Program by preparing them for Army Basic Training. I’m very passionate about being a Leader, coaching, motivating and mentoring our young Soldiers into becoming the best Soldiers they can be is what it's all about. Fostering a positive attitude, working together to accomplish our mission and building a cohesive team to help build our Nations finest Citizen-Soldiers. We are always ready. We are always there. In addition to my Recruiting & Retention NCO duties, As a Station Commander I perform the following: Supervising Recruiting EffortThe recruiting station commander directly supervises their team. The commander’s primary focus is to ensure that the recruiting process is efficient and effective. The commander collects and analyzes recruitment data from all team members and develops a plan for how the station will use this data, including demographic information, to prospect for recruits. The commander must be a strategic leader.Managing OperationsThe recruiting station commander oversees all center operations. He directs the best practices for all center activities, establishes goals and missions and follows standard operating procedures. According to the National Guard Bureau, the commander uses control measures to create a rhythm for the center. This includes planning meetings and holding daily and weekly reviews of the work performed by members of the recruiting team.Administering TrainingThe recruiting station commander trains all members of the recruiting team and assists in managing the Recruit Sustainment Program Cadre and training. The commander also works closely with new members of the recruiting team to teach them how to perform their job duties and to develop their recruiting skills and abilities. The commander also must acquire and utilize the training materials provided by National Guard Bureau and manages the station’s physical fitness training program.Team Member SupportThe recruiting station commander provides overall support for the team. This includes providing resources for team members and new soldiers. The commander also creates and devises team-building exercises and activities.

Basic Job DescriptionArmy National Guard Recruiting and Retention NCOs recruit and retain qualified Soldiers for entry into the Army National Guard in accordance with applicable regulations.Duties performed by Soldiers in this MOS include:Prospects for leads. Prepares a prospect card. Refines leads. Conducts a school program. Determines basic enlist ment eligibility. Pre-qualifies an individual for enlistment. Deter mines eligibility for extension or immediate reenlistment. Conducts enlistment, attrition management and retention interviews. Explains the selected reserve incentive program and the Montgomery GI Bill, initial entry training (lET) requirements, test results, enlistment options/programs/obligations, non-regular service retirement, employer support and reemployment tights. Evaluates unit sponsorship program. Briefs applicant on MEPS processing. Prepares and completes an enlistment packet. Counsels an applicant. Operates Guard Accession Information Network System. Establishes media contacts. Conducts direct mail campaigns. Evaluates the unit's retention environment. Explains strength maintenance recognition programs. Conduct a strength maintenance interview and briefing. Develops a time management work plan. Trains unit first line leaders on career planning. Reviews extension/immediate reenlistment procedures. Identifies alternatives to separation/transfer/discharge. Evaluates retention data, forms and files. Initiates security for family assistance operations. Explains the National Guard Family Program. Identifies resources for family assistance. Provides referral services for family members. Prepares DD Form 1172 (Application for Uniformed Services Identification Card--DEERS) for DEERS enrollment, issues ID cards for family members during mobilization. Develops a state marketing plan. Prepares and advertising budget. Determines regulatory requirements for advertising. Writes recruit ing and retention advertising copy and script.
