The Cultural Resources Protection Program (CRPP) ensures compliance with federal, state and tribal cultural resources laws within the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation's (CTUIR) reservation and ceded lands (NE Oregon & SE Washington). The CRPP is responsible for protecting and managing the CTUIR's irreplaceable cultural resources (archaeological sites, burial sites, rock image sites, traditional use areas, first food resource areas, etc) for future generations. The CRPP is a contract oriented program within the CTUIR Department of Natural Resources that actively seeks and contracts cultural resource work. The CRPP conduct cultural resources inventory surveys, testing and evaluation, monitoring, ground penetrating radar investigations, oral history and traditional use studies, NAGPRA, and trainings. It is best to begin consultation with the CTUIR-CRPP during the planning process of a project to ensure that all of the CTUIR's concerns and issues are addressed early on and compliance with the appropriate federal or state cultural resource laws are conducted.Ataw Consulting, LLC is a small business enterprise of the CTUIR that is a for profit contracting business that provides the same services as the CRPP with the exception of consultation. All consultation must be done with the CTUIR-CRPP. Ataw Consulting conducts work within the CTUIR's ceded lands and elsewhere.
