This is done by performing penetration testing assessments, risk assessments, security framework assessments, and using my CISO experience to help customers transform their security practice from the reactionary position, to one of compliance, prediction, and profitability.Depending on the business model, I can speak to PCI, HIPAA, SOX, JSOX, SEC, FFIEC, NCUA, GLBA, and other competencies by using security frameworks such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, SANS/CSC Top 20, and the NIST 800-53 frameworks. As a virtual/fractional consulting CISO, I am entrenched in customer business developing new security budgets, vendor relationships, vendor management assessments, and security awareness training.Currently, I am the virtual/fractional CISO for 8-15 business customers, and a very active penetration tester. The business verticals include, finance, education, manufacturing, healthcare, entertainment retail, government, and shipping. These active vCISO engagements give me the ability to see cross-vertical security risks as they happen in real-time.
