Since December 2011 to present, I have been working on a group of commercial industry applications which I expect to go live on Heroku in Fall 2013. This project is being developed using Ruby-on-Rails 3 and a host of supporting add-ins ("gems").From May 2011 to December 2011, I gained Rails programming proficiency by working on lab projects from popular Ruby-on-Rails 3.0 books (such as Michael Hartl's book "Ruby on Rails Tutorial”) which required me to use common Rails tools such as SQLite 3, Haml, Rspec 2, Factory-Girl 2, Git, GitHub, Bundler, Rake, and Heroku.Prior to 2011, I provided consulting services to small-businesses and non-profits seeking a web presence. Services included: maintaining/updating existing websites; designing/creating new websites; re-engineering websites using Microsoft .Net/ASP technologies by replacing all Microsoft proprietary technologies with LAMP open-source technologies; advising businesses on leveraging their web site for achieving their business goals.

MyBlockNYC.com is an interactive mapping website that captures and presents personal video accounts of the life and culture of New York City in order to create an intimate, evolving, and complete portrait of this great city. Users upload videos geographically, building the first fully interactive video map of New York City.Besides programming and supporting Ruby-on-Rails, I also support Sinatra app development.

I was a Ruby-on-Rails programmer for VFILES, a fashion/media startup seeking to carve out a niche for fashion professionals and enthusiasts with an online combination of original and partner content. We used GitHub for our software library, TDdium as our continuous integration and deployment service, and Heroku as our hosting service.My personal development computer was an Apple MacBook-Air laptop having Ruby-on-Rails-3 development system with gems for SQLite, Heroku, RSpec/FactoryGirl, Capybara, and Elasticsearch/Tire.My specific duties included:>Found and fixed software bugs located in Ruby, Rails, HTML, and CSS/SASS code. We collaborated our code and our comments using GitHub “pull request” service.>Documented existing Rails code expectations and use by writing validation tests (in RSpec with some help from FactoryGirl and Capybara) which were used in deployments by TDdium to enforce code stability. >Created Rails migrations and Rake tasks to do global updates against our databases. We used SQLite on our personal development systems and PostgreSQL on our Heroku staging and production environments.>Accepted tasks and reported my work progress using Pivotal Tracker.>Participated in daily “standup” meeting via Skype video conferencing service.
