In 2013, The Jim Henson Visual and Performing Arts Academy was founded within Northwestern Hish School in Hyattsville Maryland. I had been volunteering with the music program several years prior because there are many students in that school's district whose families cannot afford private instruction. Thus, in August 2013, I was the first person hired to begin as adjunct faculty in the new academy's music program (besides band, orchestra and vocal music, there is also dance, theater, visual art and TV and film). I teach saxophone and flute, work with the jazz ensemble and on occasion am called on to substitute as band director, theory or general music teacher or beginning guitar. I have written arrangements for the band and jazz ensemble, and write studies and warm-up exercises for both the band and individual instruments.

UltiMate Music is my own business. There are several profit-making activities within the company: bandleader / director of several bands (La Leyenda - quartet, Latin jazz combo, salsa band, and Latin big band and Stormy Weather Jazz Quintet); arranger with an internet-based sales business; private music teacher. I also handle all the administrative tasks, especially as regards leading bands, including client negotiations, bookings and scheduling, writing for the bands, hiring musicians as independent contractors for events, doing payroll and taxes, designing La Leyenda's website and UltiMate Music database applications for managing the business and music library.

I have taught saxophone and flute privately since 1985. I have developed a multi-year syllabus or outline of course of study that takes students from earliest beginning through college level abilities. The areas covered include technique, performance, theory and improvisation and care of the instrument. Most of my students continue their studies with me for multiple years (the longest-term student stayed ten years!)

I was involved in or led many projects involving advanced electro-optics technologies. I devised approaches, architectures and solutions to support clients' requirements, wrote proposals (winning 8 of 14 proposals in which I was principal author), and acted as researcher. In the process, I was awarded 7 US Patents. I was frequently a presenter of proposals (or progress after contract award) to senior government personnel. I also taught or wrote papers for symposia (ex: Principle of Optical Computers). My education in physics and applied math served my well as a basis for developing models of systems I had devised. I was named Outstanding Employee or received other awards from companies I worked for or my DoD clients.

CTA is a contractor to the Federal government. During my 13+ years there, I worked on FBI and FAA contracts. The FBI effort was the acquisition of their Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) in which I worked on requirements, a system-level message-flow description and designed databases for requirements management and the IAFIS massage book. At FAA I worked on Air Traffic Control Systems radio (NEXCOM) and voice switch (NAS Voice Switch) acquisitions in the areas of requirements, architecture, RFP evaluations and safety.
